October 11th is the third annual International Day of the Girl, an awareness day established by the United Nations to highlight the plight of poor girls in developing countries. The Kiran Anjali Project’s guiding principal is a belief in the strength and unlimited potential of girls in India and across the globe. The undisputed facts are that educated girls are healthier, marry later, have fewer children, and are more financially secure. Everyone benefits when girls go on to be innovators, educators, leaders, and change agents in their communities and beyond. We are seeing this happen at Wings School in Hyderabad as the school’s first graduates enter into the Propel Program to go on to higher education. They are pursuing career paths that would have been impossible without the quality education they received.

In the spirit of International Day of the Girl we celebrate the Wings girls’ promising futures. But why stop there?  We all have girls in our lives that deserve to be celebrated! We invite you to celebrate a girl in your life by making a donation to The Kiran Anjali Project in her honor. We would love to spread the news by announcing that you are celebrating her on our  Facebook page.  Just send an email to Sheryl  with permission to post, the name of the celebrated girl, and a fun picture (Please include her first name and initial. No donation amount will be posted). Or post your own picture on Instagram or Facebook with #Celebrateagirl. The campaign is open now and closes on Oct. 11th.

Teen KAP is hosting the Celebrate a Girl campaign and they have sent out postcards to friends and family inviting them to join the donation drive. We have several donations already and we will be posting celebration announcements soon. There are extra postcards featuring artwork by Teen KAP member Juliette Benazra that we would be happy to send to you to start your own campaign.

But wait…there is more! One of our favorite girls to celebrate, Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, has her remarkable story told through a new documentary called He Named Me MalalaThe film is being released on October 9th, 2015. We invite you to organize Malala Movie Meet Ups in your community.  We’re sure that after you see the movie, you will be inspired by her story and want to help improve the educational opportunities for poor children in the developing world. Check out the movie’s website for information about  where it will be shown in your community.

We look forward to seeing all the faces of of the multiple girls we will honor this month during KAP’s Celebrate a Girl Campaign. Keep checking  Facebook for the notices and info on Malala Movie Meet Ups near you!
